Community Support Instructor - On Call & 30+ hours/week
San Francisco, Oakland, Walnut Creek/Tri Valley Area (Hearing and Deaf)
Purpose: To provide support to adults with developmental disabilities in maintaining independent living.
Reports to: Community Coordinator, Assistant Director of Community Support, or Director of Community Services.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of six months experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and/or a willingness to work with developmentally disabled adults and other relevant experience.
- American Sign Language skills preferred (some level of ASL required if working with Deaf adults.)
- First Aid certification.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to meet client needs.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently; Must have full range of motion in upper body; bending and lifting required.
- Sit, stand or walk for lengthy periods of time.
- Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions related to persons with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction and support around all areas of daily living, including, but not limited to: meal preparation, shopping, hygiene, personal care, budgeting, safety awareness, and maintaining a clean and healthy living environment.
- Monitor client progress, complete all required paperwork.
- Provide instruction regarding client rights and self-advocacy.
- Provide training and support in areas that enable clients to maintain their own homes in the community of their choice.
- Responsible for maintaining professional conduct with clients
