Community Support Instructor - On Call & 30+ hours/week

San Francisco, Oakland, Walnut Creek/Tri Valley Area (Hearing and Deaf)

Purpose: To provide support to adults with developmental disabilities in maintaining independent living.

Reports to: Community Coordinator, Assistant Director of Community Support, or Director of Community Services.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of six months experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and/or a willingness to work with developmentally disabled adults and other relevant experience.
  • American Sign Language skills preferred (some level of ASL required if working with Deaf adults.)
  • First Aid certification.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet client needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently; Must have full range of motion in upper body; bending and lifting required.
  • Sit, stand or walk for lengthy periods of time.
  • Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions related to persons with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and support around all areas of daily living, including, but not limited to: meal preparation, shopping, hygiene, personal care, budgeting, safety awareness, and maintaining a clean and healthy living environment.
  • Monitor client progress, complete all required paperwork.
  • Provide instruction regarding client rights and self-advocacy.
  • Provide training and support in areas that enable clients to maintain their own homes in the community of their choice.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional conduct with clients
