Director of Community Living

  • Supervises: Assistant Director(s) of Community Living
  • Status / Level: Exempt
  • Purpose: To ensure the quality and effectiveness of all Community Living staff.

Toolworks, in partnership with people with disabilities, is a human service agency dedicated to providing the tools and resources that promote independence, equality, and personal satisfaction. Toolworks provides a number of programs including: job placement and training, community integration, and supported living services.

Position Title:   Director of Community Living

Grade:              Senior Management

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Management

  • Manage all community living programs assuring overall quality of services provided.
  • Manage the financial integrity of the department including cash flow and budgeting, making adjustments as warranted
  • Manage all aspects of compliance: CARF and DDS and other regulatory agencies as warranted ensuring that programs comply with each agency’s regulations in providing quality services to the clients Toolworks’ serves in community services
  • Manage the work of the Assistant Director to ensure good workflow and productivity

Administrative

  • Ensure the collection of client data and completion of subsequent reporting
  • Complete all required reporting for regulatory bodies: CARF, DDS, and other necessary compliance related reporting
  • Carry out intakes and maintain contacts with referral sources as needed
  • Ensure program design is current and develop support plan objectives

Organizational (all staff)

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings and retreats as required
  • Comply with current agency performance standards
  • Report changes in criminal or employment status on a timely basis
  • Represent the organization to visitors and the community as needed
  • Maintain a professional attitude, working cooperatively with other staff, clients and members of the community
  • Maintain confidentiality of client/staff information as required by law and agency policy
  • Treat clients and co-workers with dignity and respect

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Education and Experience Requirement

  • A. in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field, or in lieu of education, a minimum of seven (7) years experience working with adults with developmental disabilities
  • Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience
  • First Aid Certification required, Instructor level training preferred

Skills requirement

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • ASL skills strongly preferred.
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written skills
